Please Don’t Punch Me
Last night I had a fantastic swim at one of the most famous thermal baths in Europe. It was wonderful, except for one bothersome interruption.
In the middle of my relaxing soak, I was suddenly compelled to try and take a photograph of the old men in one of the pools, that sit there at all times playing chess. You know the ones — it may be one of the most recognized and most popular shots of Budapest. It’s graced the cover of many a guide-book, and with good reason.
The baths are architecturally stunning. The distinctive men with their long beards and pot bellies, are deep in thought pondering the built-in chess boards. The hot water is letting off a steam that reflects the lighting almost mystically.
