Ton Sai Beach at low tide. (Near the more famous, expensive and far less charismatic Railey Beach, Krabi, Thailand.)
This likely the best place in the world to learn to rock-climb. Also dangerous - people get stuck here and never want to leave.
There are loads of spectacular islands off the coast of Thailand near Krabi. Get a group of about eight together, and you can hire a longtail boat for a day for $10 each.
You’ll find the most beautiful, totally empty beaches you’ve ever seen, with so many fish you won’t even have to swim to see them. Just put on your snorkel mask and take a seat in the water, like my lazy boyfriend in the picture.
Deep Thoughts — Reality Update After 4.5 Months on the Road
I left Ton Sai beach near Ao Nang in Thailand today to investigate the rumor that I could extend my 30 day visitor visa in Krabi Town at the immigration office.
Riding in the back of the shared pick-up truck taxi, after a quick long-tail boat ride, I was suddenly heading towards a bigger town than I’d seen in weeks. We passed many small restaurants, mini-markets, and single service shops, with nothing but jungle and limestone cliffs behind them.
Before long, a relatively large nursery flew by, and Home Depot popped into my head. And then WalMart and Lowe’s.
