As we hung out on An Bang beach, near Hoi An in Vietnam, a couple of foreigners came over and hung a bunch of their stuff all over one of these fishing boats, draping bags of fruit on fishing gear, laying out wet clothes … After an hour or so, an absolutely enraged fisherman came over and starting screaming at them and feigning that he was going to kick them. We couldn’t help laughing at them as they desperately tried to get all their bags and crap off the boat.
Before they even got everything together, he ran out to the water and filled a bucket and ran back and started dumping it all over his boat, splashing a bit on their feet as they tried to get away. Get those tourist germs off! (What the hell were they thinking anyway. Chairs/lounges on An Bang are free to hang out on, just buy a bottle of water … you don’t need to act like you own someone else’s fishing boat and gear.)
Anyway, An Bang definitely ended up being a highlight of our 2 weeks in Vietnam. We hope to get back and visit the guys at Banyan soon!
Rabbit Island (Koh Tonsai), off the coast of Kep, Cambodia.
Byron Bay at low tide.
I just wrote a bit about our very brief time there.
Ton Sai Beach at low tide. (Near the more famous, expensive and far less charismatic Railey Beach, Krabi, Thailand.)
This likely the best place in the world to learn to rock-climb. Also dangerous - people get stuck here and never want to leave.
Goa, India.
I’m getting warmed up here … now that we’re settled into Hugo’s brother’s house in Brisbane for a few weeks, I’m hoping to get some posts about the past five months of travel up soon!
Been stuck on Ton Sai beach, near Krabi, Thailand, for over two weeks now. Learning to rock climb, swimming, hiring longtail boats to explore and snorkel around nearby islands with a great group of new friends, kayaking, hiking, great cheap food … and a $10/night bungalow. Why would we leave?
Oh right, sadly, I don’t have another visa run to Malaysia in me. So we’ll be heading to Cambodia next Tuesday.
Why Nam Beach, Koh Phangan, Thailand.
There are still many secluded, gorgeous beaches and small bays to be found on the jungle covered, hilly island that hosts the Full Moon Party. But it takes a little leg-work.
Sorry I haven’t posted in a little while, but I’m on the beach in Thailand! I’m thus very busy reading, swimming, snorkeling, napping, hiking a bit, and developing a serious, crushing addiction for the above pictured Som Tam (Spicy Green Papaya Salad).
Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and thank you to all my new followers, and to let you all know I’ve been taking plenty of photos, and writing (on paper!) and will get caught up soon. Right now, though, I have an appointment with a very demanding hammock…
